NEW Evening Starting a Business Event
Over 35 budding entrepreneurs from across a wide range of sectors attended a highly engaging and successful Starting a Business workshop at Wyre Council’s Civic Centre on 28th January 2026.
The event was coordinated by The Small Business Academy and jointly funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund by Wyre, Fylde and Blackpool Councils. The evening guided delegates through a comprehensive introduction to starting a business, covering key do’s and don’ts, the where, why, how and who of business start‑up, and answering a wide range of questions from those in attendance.
Delegates included both pre‑start businesses and individuals who had launched their ventures within the past twelve months. As well as gaining practical knowledge, attendees made valuable connections with like‑minded entrepreneurs, exchanging contact details, following one another on social media and beginning to build supportive local business networks.
The workshop covered essential topics including different business structures, tax and accounting basics, an introduction to marketing and finding customers, pricing strategies, and the next steps available through local business support.
Those attending found the session extremely useful and left with practical “homework” – drafting a business plan and a cashflow forecast – to bring to the next event in the series, Finance for Start‑ups, taking place in the coming weeks. These documents will be submitted to The Small Business Academy team, who will then provide tailored one‑to‑one support to help each budding entrepreneur move their business forward.
The workshop forms part of a wider programme of support aimed at helping new and emerging businesses build strong foundations, develop confidence, and progress towards sustainable growth.
