Wyre Council to Host Key HR and Employment Law Update for Local Employers

Businesses across Wyre and the Fylde Coast are being invited to attend an important evening event next month, offering employers a clear and practical update on the major changes to employment law coming into force this April. The changes are the largest set of employment law changes in a generation.

The session on Employment Law and HR Essentials for Employers, will take place on Wednesday 8 April 2026 at the Civic Centre in Poulton-le-Fylde, running from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. The event is being delivered in partnership with local specialists MYHR Consultancy and representatives from the Lancashire Skills Hub, supported by Wyre Council’s Business Engagement team.

The event is aimed at helping employers understand their new responsibilities in a straightforward, accessible way with a local firm, and county business support programmes. The update is suitable for all types of employers, from rural micro‑businesses and start‑ups to established SMEs and larger organisation HR Teams.

Attendees will receive a breakdown of the latest legislationincluding updates linked to the Employment Rights Act 2025, changes to zero‑hours rules, revisions to holiday and sick pay, contract requirements and family leave entitlements. There will also be guidance on health and safety expectations, including the practical implications of Martyn’s Law, plus tailored advice for new or growing employers.

The evening will begin with a warm welcome, light bites and refreshments, offering employers a chance to network before the presentations begin.

Cllr Peter Le Marinel, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at Wyre Council, said the event has been designed with busy employers in mind:

“We know that many businesses are already juggling a lot, and now having to get on top of all the new HR and legal changes could become overwhelming, especially for smaller SME’s with no HR team. This session is about giving employers one clear, friendly and informative update so they can feel confident about what they need to do. For anyone who hasn’t yet attended an employment law update this year, this is the ideal opportunity.”

Experts from MYHR Consultancy will lead the main briefing, with the Lancashire Skills Hub outlining the support available to help businesses upskill their workforce and access wider regional training initiatives. A live Q&A session will allow attendees to ask real‑world questions directly to the specialists.

The event forms part of the council’s ongoing Wyred Up EduSocials, aimed at fostering a supportive and collaborative business community across Wyre, providing specialist, local guest speakers, and encouraging them to seek early advice when navigating business change.

Tickets cost £15, which includes refreshments and a light bite. Businesses from surrounding areas including Blackpool, Fylde and Lancaster, are welcome to attend.
