Supporting Wyre Businesses to Net Zero
SSE Community Funds
SSE Renewables provides financial support to a wide range of community projects. We aim to create social, economic and environmental change in the communities that we serve. Since 2008, our funds have supported over 9,000 community projects, from infrastructure improvements to employment initiatives.
Eligible locations: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

SME Loan Scheme
Companies in energy-intensive industries can enter into a CCA with the Environment Agency. In return for meeting energy efficiency or carbon reduction targets, they receive significant discounts on the CCL:
- Electricity: 92% discount
- Gas: 89% discount
- LPG and other fuels: 77–89% discount
Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund
Routed through the British Business Bank, funding is available for SME’s and larger businesses in Wyre. These are business loans, with security required on assets, property, equipment, debt etc. The terms of the loans require a business to actively plan to and then reduce their carbon footprint. Support is available through advisors.
Chamber Low Carbon
The aim of Chamber Low Carbon is to improve the efficiency and productivity Lancashire businesses, enable them to become more competitive and reduce their carbon footprint. Support and funding be accessed through this team.
Chamber Low Carbon also has a sister programme RedCAT which works with companies and individuals who are developing low carbon and renewable technologies.
The Co-operative Bank – Renewable Energy Funding Scheme
The co-operative bank provides up to 100% loan funding for renewable energy projects. Through the Renewable Energy Funding Scheme, businesses can cover the cost of renewable energy technologies, from electric vehicles to LED lighting.

Small Business Growth Grant
Wyre Council’s Small Business Growth Grant is open to existing businesses looking to grow their business. An element of this grant requires the applicant to submit information on their carbon reduction plans.
The grant can cover capital equipment, training, and consultancy can be applied for should this be required for assisting with a carbon reduction plan.
