Accessibility statement for Wyre council website

Scope

This accessibility statement applies to:

These websites are run by Wyre Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use them. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader
  • listen to most of the downloadable PDFs using a screen reader

We’ve also made our website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of our websites are not fully accessible:

  • You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • Some older PDFs published prior to September 2018 are exempt from the regulations and are not likely to work with assistive technology.
  • Some minutes and agendas hosted on Modern Gov are not accessible and are not likely to work with assistive technology.

Technical information about this websites accessibility

Wyre Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

  • We have had to add a download to a direct debit form for customers that are unable to verify their council tax account details. This has made the form inaccessible: https://www.wyre.gov.uk/downloads/download/212/direct-debit-form
  • Some older PDF documents (published prior to 23/09/2018) are not fully accessible to screen reader software and are exempt from the regulations for non-essential services provided by the council
  • Some PDF documents are produced by a third party provider and are therefore exempt under section 4.2 of the regulations, although we will make every effort to obtain an accessible version where possible
  • Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards and our monthly content reviews will aim to fix any issues found.
